Cut The Egg - the prehistoric soccer game. Move the Cursor over the egg-picture!
Cut the egg is an early form of social life. Like Europeans love the soccer game, in such a way the caveman enjoyed to cut the egg. It is mainly carried out on Saturday afternoon (but only in the period from January 1 to Dec 24th.). The local community shared on these days in two groups. One group was betting that the egg inside is completely white. The other group it is inside yellow. It was for sure very exciting. The referee was also the cutter. The cutting of the egg comes along with by numerous of shouts, screams and whistles by their followers. It was often interrupted because of fisticuffs. It also happened that furious followers of a group crushed the egg. This was interpreted by the referee as a draw. The bet stakes were high - deer, mammoth, boons, wives, girlfriends etcetera. Even alcoholic beverages were served. Alcohol poisoning were not uncommon. I am glad to live in the present. - And that we do not practise this kind of rude behave in our civilized time. I rediscovery this rituals in 1984, once I explored in the Gorham-caves in Gibraltar. The cave itself appears to me like a sliced yellow egg. The scoring in the rocks are clearly assign the ceremony of the egg-cutting. The radiocarbon method is dating the age 39,000 years before Christ. The ceremony of the egg-cutting is clearly attributed to the Neanderthals. Move the Cursor over picture (left)!
