In dialogue with Michelangelo Buonarroti, whose sculpture depicts the biblical David at the moment when, slingshot already loaded, strap still on his shoulder, he takes up the fight against the giant Goliath, Loeschner-Gornau's sculpture refers more to the words of Jesus: "Turn the other cheek to him" (Matthew 5:39, Luke 6:29). Or: "Put your sword back where it belongs! For all who live by the sword will die by the sword" (Matthew 26:52).
Prof. Andreas Loeschner-Gornau's sculpture presents David as an abstract, organic form reminiscent of a stylized human figure. Its surface displays a rich patina of turquoise green, bronze, and subtle red tones that shimmer in the light. The figure has a curved silhouette with two central openings in the upper section, creating a dynamic sense of emptiness. The rough texture and irregular bases give the work an archaic feel.
